Malaysia - 'Allah' for muslim only

Why Christians in Malaysia may not use “Allah”
Why “Allah” is for Muslim-only :

1. “Allah” is never recognised as the name of God in the “original” bible (English bible), so no reason for Christians in malaysia to use “Allah”. The English bibles are translations of the more original (earlier) bibles in Aramaic language (may be I am wrong what language actually). Surely the bible in the Aramaic language never use the word “Allah” as the name of God, otherwise we would find it in abundance in the English bibles upon translation. We dont find a single “Allah” in the English bible. So, we are safe to believe strongly that the Aramaic bibles dont recognise “Allah”.

2. The Bahasa Melayu bibles are translation from English bibles. Since English bibles dont recognise “Allah”, why Bahasa Melayu bibles suddenly want to recognise “Allah”.

3. Christians in Malaysia must examine the “original” bible in Aramaic to see whether the bible use “Allah”, which is very doubtful.

4. Some non-muslims (also some muslim) argue that Arab christians use “Allah” in their bible and in their prayer, so Malaysian christians should be allowed to use “Allah” as well. To this, it must be reminded that the original bible is not in Arabic. The Arab christians use Arabic bibles translated from English bibles. It is a mistake for Arab christians to use “Allah” in their bibles because “Allah” is never recognise in the original bibles. Malaysian Christians should not then repeat the mistake done by Arab Christians. And Malaysian Muslims should not repeat the mistake done by the Arab Muslims authorithy in allowing the Christians to use “Allah” in the bibles.

5. Christians in the West hold the view that ‘Allah’ is a name of a moon god, that is for them Muslims worship moon-god, a pagan god. It is laughable that Christians in the West abhor the use of the word ‘Allah’ as the name of god while Christians in Malaysia want to use it. Christians, as long as they can split and confuse the muslims, they will do anything.

6. Christians in the West hold the view that their god and muslim’s god is not one or the same. Apparently Christians in Malaysia do not aware of this view. If they know, they would not want to use the word ‘Allah’, and actually they should not.

7. Christians in Malaysia argue that “Allah is being used much much earlier than the coming of Islam”. By saying this, Christians assume that Islam is started by Prophet Muhammad. They should read and learn about Islam before saying. The Quran clearly stamps that Islam history begin from Prophet Adam. Of course, the people from the time of Adam to Muhammad, they had already known the word ‘Allah’ as the name of God. However, the notion that ‘Allah’ is a name of God is only available in Islam but not available in Christianity.

8. If Christians want to use ‘Allah’ in Bahasa Melayu to mean as the supreme being and not as the specific name of God, then the attempt is not a good one because in Bahasa Melayu it is already established that the supreme being is ‘Tuhan’ and the specific name of the supreme being is ‘Allah’.

9. This is what Christians say about Islam and allah : - "Islam is a polytheistic religion; they (Muslims) worship the idol called Allah and his Prophet known as Muhammad ()." Hehe now christians in malaysia want to use the word 'Allah' ha ?

10. In the Quran, there are many phrases of "In the name of God (illah)....", so it is obvious what is the name of God (ie Allah). In the christian bible, there is not a single phrase like this. So, in christianity, God is nameless, now they want to influence Muslim into believing that God is also nameless.

11. Take an example in Surah 19 (Maryam) verse 36 : "(Iesa (Jesus) said): "And verily Allah is my God and your God. So worship Him (Alone). That is the Straight Path.". In the verse in Arabic, "Allah" is Allah and God is "Rabb". This clearly shows that Allah is the name of God. Imagine if "Allah" is translated as "God", then the translation would become like this : "(Iesa (Jesus) said): "And verily God is my God and your God.". It would become awkward.

12. The problem with Christians is that their bible never tell the specific name of God. That is why the bible use God as generic name for the supreme being. Since they dont know the specific name of God, they assume that Muslims also dont know the name of God. They dont realise that for Muslim, 'Allah' is a specific name for the God, not a generic name.

13. According to some source, the culprit is Abdullah Munsyi. He is the one who translate 'God' as 'Allah' when ask by some priests, and those priests use the translation since then. Now the Ibans should know that the translation is WRONG and must make correction ! The correct translation is 'Tuhan.'

14. In the Muslim Syahadah, muslim utter "There is no God but Allah". We do not say "There is no God but God". The latter sound ridiculous. The Former indicates that Allah is the specific name of God. This is the structure of proclamation taught by our Prophet. The structure is thus encompassing that Allah is the name of THE God. In daily language, we say "My father is John", we dont say 'My father is my father". We don't say "I have no father except my father", but we say "I have no father except John". 'Father' is generic while 'John' is specific name.

15. Muslim have the responsibility to safeguard the integrity f Islam, just like non muslim have responsibility towards their religion. Muslims allowing non-muslim to attach wrong attributes for Allah is not safeguarding Islam. How can a muslim allow someone say that Allah is one in three or Allah transformed Himself into man ?

16. The number of years 'Allah' is being used by Christians in Malaysia does not make it correct and proper in its usage. The Christian Ibans may not know the proper translation for God in Bahasa Melayu, or getting wrong info before using it. Now they should know that the translation of 'Allah' for 'God' is wrong. They should make correction and use the proper translation ie 'Tuhan'.

17. Some muslim (like RPK and Anwar Ibrahim) and non muslim say that Allah is started being used since pagan time by pagan people and muslim just follow the pagan name. However, According to Quran, Allah is being known and used since the Prophet Adam. Over time, faith dwindle and man started to go astray and misuse 'Allah'. They equate 'Allah' with non-proper attributes. That is why Allah from time to time send prophets to make correction to the faith. Now it seems the wrong has become correct in the eyes of RPK and non-muslim, because they limit their knowledge to pagan times only and not go earlier than that. It is muslim responsibility to make correction to the attributes of Allah to the correct one.

===============

Respond to a blog :

It is wrong to say that Malay Language 'borrowed' the Word 'Allah' from the Arab. This shows your lack of knowledge about Quran, Islam and Muslim.

Quran, the source of Islam, clearly mention that Allah is the name of the supreme being, the God. It is a specific name of God. For man to embrace Islam, he proclaims 'There is no God but Allah'. This is one example. There are many more in the Quran.

Islam does not start during Prophet Muhammad times. In the Quran, Islam started as early as the human beings itself, ie from Adam and Eve. The language of Adam and Eve is not Arab. So do Moses and Jesus do not speak Arab, but Quran says all prophets since Adam knows the name of Allah though they are not Arab. In the Quran, the general word for God as spoken by Arab is 'Rabb'.

In the Quran, it is told that Allah sent prophets from time to time to make correction on man's faith. Many people, over time, get astrayed. misuse of Allah is one of them. Some people use and equate Allah with idols. This is wrong. That is why Allah sent prophets to remind people of their mistake.

When Malay language use Allah, it is not borrowing from Arab. It comes with Islam when Malay people embraces Islam. And Islam does not means Arab. Allah is made known to mankind since Adam. Only Islam made people know that the name of God is Allah. That is why Malay people insist that Allah is for Muslim only.

Why then Arab Christian also use Allah ? When Arab Christian use Allah, it does not mean they are correct. Bible is not originated in Arab. Arab bible is only a translation from English bible. English bible does not use Allah, because English christians does not recognise Allah. English christians use Jesus or God. When English bible is translated into Arab, the Arab christians translate God as Allah. This is a wrong translation. They should use Rabb. Being christians, though they are Arab, they dont know what is in the Quran. So, they use Allah, and Arab Muslims dont prevent Arab Christians from using Allah. Non-prevention by Arab Muslim does not mean Arab Christian is correct. This is a mistake by Arab Muslims for not correcting or preventing the Arab christians from using Allah. Arab Christian dont know that for English christians the word Allah means 'moon god'.

In the Quran, there is a verse mentioning that Arab does not mean more Islamic than the non-arab muslim (or something like that), so please dont refer to Arab as if they are the are the true muslim.

Christians and some Muslims say that 'Allah' is derived from the word 'ilah'. It is not. 'Allah' is a word by itself. It is not a word derived from 'ilah'. To the people who hold to this, I would like to ask :

'ilah' means 'god'. So, 'Allah' means what ?

How do you know that there is a derivation takes place ?

Just because 'ilah' sound similar to 'Allah' then you think there is a derivation ?

Salah faham keatas Al-Ankabut ayat 46

"And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, except with means better (than mere disputation), unless it be with those of them who inflict wrong (and injury): but say, "We believe in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our Allah and your Allah is one; and it is to Him we bow (in Islam)."

Tapi, cuba lihat terjemahan begini :

"And dispute ye not with the People of the Book, except with means better (than mere disputation), unless it be with those of them who inflict wrong (and injury): but say, "We believe in the revelation which has come down to us and in that which came down to you; Our God and your God is only one; and it is to Him we bow (in Islam)."

Perhatian :

2. Terdapat perbezaan pengertian bila kita berkata "our God and your God is one" berbanding bila kita kata "our god and your god is only one".

Muhammad Chehab says :

"We the ARABS have used the word Allah long before you guys even know what Islam is.

The Christian Arabs have used this word long ages before the rise of Islam. So why you want to trademark it?

Its not even a Malay word. Its an ARABIC WORD. FROM THE ARABS. Not Malays."

===========

Lets's understand this from Islamic perspective, not from Arab perspective. From Islamic perspective means we source from Quran and hadith, not the tongue of the Arabs.

If we read the Quran, we should know that 'Allah' is NOT an Arabic Word for the God. 'Allah' is a specific word that the God wants us to recognise Him by that name. The proclamation of syahadah reads "There is no God but Allah". It is not "There is no God but god". It is very clear that 'Allah' is a specific name, not a generic name. in Arabic of the Quran, the generic for god is 'Rabb'. In the Quran, when God want to refer to himself in generic term, he uses Rabb, but when he refers to Himself in specific name He uses 'Allah'.

In the Quran, we know that Islam begin from the time of Adam and Eve, not from the time of Prophet Muhammad. Adam knows 'Allah'. The other prophets after him also know and use Allah because it is not an Arabic word. In the early bible, there are also mentioned Allah but since then the word Allah was wiped out and replaced with 'god' or 'lord'. Now there is no single 'Allah' in the bible (now they want to put it back).

From Adam time, people know Allah. But from time to time, the knowledge about Allah dwindle and people start to misuse 'Allah'. Some people say certain idols are Allah. Some people say Allah is one in three. There are many ways of misusing Allah. Arab Christian also misuse Allah. Non-muslim know Allah not in the correct perspective.

In the Quran, Allah is very angry with the people who say something not true about Himself. There are many verses. Allah promise hell for those who say Allah is such and such which is not true.

Since Allah is not happy people misusing 'Allah', do you think muslims would happy if some other people use 'Allah' not in the correct way ? It is the responsibility of muslim to prevent using of Allah if Allah is not put in the correct perspective. It is not about copyrighting Allah, but about putting people into using Allah in the correct understanding, otherwise, dont use it !

Kalimah Allah bukan sahaja bererti Tuhan.

Ini kerana dalam "Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions, The Second Vatican Council, Promulgated by His Holiness Pope Paul VI, October 28, 1965' telah pun menyatakan Allah dan Tuhan Kristian berbeza.

Ayat dari Bible '2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son'.

Surah 19:88 They say: "(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten a son!" 89 Indeed ye have put forth a thing most monstrous!"

Terdapat banyak ayat-ayat perbandingan lain dari Bible dan Quran lagi dikemukakan dan Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions, The Second Vatican Council, Promulgated by His Holiness Pope Paul VI, October 28, 1965' itu secara tegas menolak penggunaan kalimah Allah untuk orang Kristian.
